The Chinquapin Oak and Kentucky Warbler of the Friends of Wyalusing logo are just two examples of the many natural features that make Wyalusing State Park unique. Amethyst Shooting Stars, a Mississippi backwater canoe trail, Curtis Scientific Area, 22 miles of hiking trails, caves, and the majestic view of the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers all make Wyalusing State Park a special place to visit.

Friends of Wyalusing (FOW) is dedicated to support and promotion of the educational, interpretative, and recreational goals of Wyalusing State Park. By partnering with the park, we strive to enhance and protect Wyalusing's natural resources.

The FOW was founded as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation in 1997. All of our activities and money raised are used to benefit Wyalusing State Park and its visitors.

Friends of Wyalusing help the park in many ways:

  • Fundraising for the interpretive program, nature center, prairie restoration and other critical needs of the park

  • Alien plant control and other park maintenance labor

An outstanding example is the work of the Marquardts in rebuilding the Flint Ledge Trail and opening the view at the South Picnic Area. Details of their work are here.

  • Assisting the park naturalist with the interpretive program

  • Sponsor special events

  • Seed collection and prairie restoration

  • Maintaining the web site for visitor and Friends information

  • FOW is now operating the concession stand and canoe rental at the park.

Future goals include

  • New information Kiosk
  • Endowment Fund
  • Continued support of native plant restoration

A Wish List of the park includes many items

As membership grows, so will the scope of our involvement. (Membership information.) Aside from the obvious benefit of funds collected from membership fees, many contributions can be made by distant members. Contributions include ideas, assistance at special events, work done at the park on visits or on your own time.
